The Story behind every Pandan Box (Page 2)
Each of the PANDAN Box that you purchase from us tells the story of how we put
emphasis on Fair Trade, Sustainability and Protecting our environment.
These pandan plants grow wild in between the coconut trees
at the mountainous regions in the Philippines
The leaves are harvested by hand in a manner that the plant is not
destroyed, thus the leaves grow continuously.  Having this kind of growth,
PANDAN is considered as one of the most natural and sustainable materials
to be made into these elegant products.
The PANDAN leaves are fibrous and resistant to decay.  In fiber preparation, the
spiny margin and midribs of the leaves are removed.
The PANDAN leaves are then partly dried under the sun, and divided into
strips of desired width by splitting with a comb-like instrument.  Excess water
in the fiber is squeezed out by drawing the strips tightly around a piece of
wood.

in running water for a period of 24 hours; if in stagnant water, the liquid
must be changed frequently. The fibers are then boiled for about 15
minutes either in fresh water or in water mixed with a
little vinegar, lemon, or tamarind fruit or papaya extract (for color
whitening)The processed fibers are washed several times in fresh water
and spread out under the sun to dry.  We try our best to use the most
natural and eco-friendly materials by using fruit extracts for dyeing.

The PANDAN strips are then woven by hand to form into mats.
